Why I Use OEKO-TEX® Certified Recycled Cotton Cord in My Macrame

At Indi Boho Cornwall, sustainability isn’t a trend. It’s at the heart of everything I create. Whether I’m knotting a boho dog lead or crafting a custom wall hanging, I want you to feel good about what you’re bringing into your home ❥

That’s why I use Bobbiny recycled cotton cord, and I’d love to tell you why it’s so special and how it helps me create eco-conscious, safe, and beautiful handmade pieces.

Made From Recycled Cotton

Bobbiny cords are made from recycled cotton yarn, created from post-consumer textiles and production offcuts. That means old clothes, factory scraps, and unwanted fabric are transformed into something new… instead of going to landfill.

This process not only reduces waste but also saves water, energy, and emissions compared to conventional cotton ࿔

No Dyes, No Waste

One of the things I love most: no dyes are added.

Instead, the recycled fabrics are shredded into fibres (basically cotton “dust”), and the colour is created by blending this fibre in specific proportions. Like mixing paint, but with fabric. It’s a clever, low-impact way to get beautiful colours without using extra water or harsh chemicals.

Because of this, colours may vary slightly between batches… which just adds to the uniqueness of every piece I make ⊹ ࣪ ˖

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I Certified

Bobbiny cords have received the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification in Class I – the highest safety rating.

That means the cords are:

  • Free from harmful substances like pesticides, formaldehyde, and heavy metals
  • Safe for babies, toddlers, and people with allergies
  • Skin-safe for both humans and pets

Every batch is tested at every stage of production, so I know I’m working with materials that are safe, ethical, and planet-friendly ✌︎︎

Responsibly Produced in Europe

  • The cotton is imported from a certified European yarn producer
  • The cords are made in a small factory in Poland
  • They’re wound onto biodegradable paper spools (no plastic here!)
  • The process is designed to minimise water use, chemicals, and CO₂ emissions

This traceability matters. I want you to know exactly where your pieces come from and feel proud owning them.

Why It Matters to My Brand

Choosing materials with care is part of my slow-living, eco-first philosophy. When you buy from Indi Boho Cornwall, you’re not just supporting handmade… you’re supporting a circular, conscious way of creating.

That’s why I use Bobbiny recycled cord in:

  • Macrame dog leads
  • Wall hangings and home decor
  • Eco-friendly gifts and seasonal collections
